FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between the Rocket Mobile Hotspot device that is being offered by Rogers in Canada and PiFi?
A1: The important differences are (a) Rogers Rocket Mobile Hotspot device works with 2G/3G/3.5G/4G(LTE) mobile network where the current version of PiFi works with 2G/3G/3.5G mobile network but not 4G (LTE) mobile network. Note that most mobile networks in Canada, USA and many advanced industrialized countries do not yet operate with 4G (LTE) mobile network. The next version of PiFi due to be launched in early 2013 will also support 4G(LTE) mobile network. In practical terms, 3.5G mobile network is already high-speed enough for the purpose of providing the bandwidth required for providing a personal WiFi space at high speeds. (b) Rogers Rocket Mobile Hotspot device works only with SIM issued by Rogers and with Rogers’ mobile network in Canada and through Rogers’ mobile roaming partners’ networks in countries outside Canada; the price per MegaByte of data transfer charged by Rogers when the Rocket Mobile Hotspot device is used in Rogers’ mobile roaming partners’ networks outside Canada is exorbitant . whereas PiFi can be used with SIM issued by Rogers, Bell or Telus in Canada and most mobile operators of other countries ; when you use PiFi equipped with PiFiSIM in Canada you get price per MegaByte of data transfer as low as US$0.60 (per MB) and in USA, as low as US$0.16 per MB; in general, when you use PiFi/PiFiSIM data service, you pay 60% - 90% less in price compared to what you would pay to Rogers for their mobile roaming data service when mobile roaming outside Canada . (c) Rogers requires that you commit to a service contract for 3 years for the purchase of the Rogers Mobile Hotspot device at the price of US$25 per month whereas Ecocarrier does not require that you sign a long-term contract for the purchase of PiFi; you can purchase PiFi and PiFi SIM bundle at the special promotion price for US$99 (including shipping and handling) in a outright purchase; you pay for and use the service on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Q2: How can I save money with PiFi and PiFi services on data service to/from Internet and international calls calling telephone numbers in USA and foreign countries when in Canada and calling back to Canada and calling USA and other countries when traveling abroad?
A2: You can achieve great savings with PiFi and PiFi services on international calls when you use PiFi and PiFi Services in ways described as follows:
(a) When you are in Canada: Subscribe to Rogers or Fido for a high-speed 3G/4G SIM and service monthly-fixed-priced-package that comes with allowance for the transfer of unlimited volume of data to/from Internet in a month . Install the SIM in PiFi and use it to produce a PiFiZone (a WiFi Hotzone) for use in a small office or dwelling space of up to 1,000 sq.ft. You get downstream bandwidth ranging from 1 Mbps to 4 Mbps or greater and upstream bandwidth of 300 kbps to 1 Mbps or greater – depending on the location of use and the Base Station that the PiFi is connected to and how crowded was the wireless data traffic is at the time. A few to up to 10 people in PiFiZone may share the available bandwidth provided by PiFi through the 3G/3.G connection to the Internet. They can enjoy emailing and browsing from their PC, Laptops and Smartphones (iPhone and Android) using their WiFi mode of operation in the PiFiZone at an incredible low cost. If you have installed in your iPhone, iPAD or Android Smartphone the respective PiFiDialer App and have signed up for PiFiVoice service and have purchased credit for use with PiFiVoice service (please refer to service information and download instruction under PiFiVoice), you can set the mobile device in WiFi operation mode and make telephone calls to any telephone number at very low price (rate per minute) -- provided of course that there is adequate available bandwidth is generated for use by PiFi installed with the PiFiSIM You can achieve savings of upwards of 75% to 90% or greater.
(iii) you can receive an incoming call dialed to you PiFiDID No. for use with the PiFiDialer at no charge; all you have to do is subscribe to the use of the PiFiDID No. Note the factor 0.250 is due to 250 Kbyte of data transfer being used in making 1 minute of voice conversation; the price US$0.90/MB is the price per megabyte for data transport of 1 MB of data; By comparison, the rate per minute charged by Rogers for a roaming call from your mobile handset in Germany to Canada is US$1.97 (per minute) the rate per minute charged by Rogers for receiving a roaming call with you mobile hnadset installed with a Rogers SIM when mobile roaming in Germany is US$1.97 (per minute) Rogers charges you $0.03/KB (equivalent to US$30 per MegaByte of data transfer when you are roaming with Rogers Rocket Mobile Hotspot device in Germany.
Q3: How can using my PiFi better than tethering with my smartphone?
Your mobile smartphone is your lifeline and tethering is a battery vampire. PiFi has a battery life of 5 hours of continued use and 250 hours in standby mode. Plus, your PiFi has a MicroSD file slot which shares files just like if you were on your home network. We also offer a complete package to leverage and support the capabilities of PiFi including PiFiSIM and the data recharge for mobile roaming PiFiDialer and the PiFiVoice service for low-cost international VOIP calls and PiFiDID.
With PiFi you have a no contract device for which you can simply use your current SIM card with or you can buy a secondary SIM from your service provider and request to share your data plan with that SIM card so that you can always keep your laptop, Ipad, Ipod, android tablets, or any wifi-enabled device connected, on-the-go.
Q4: How can I order PiFiDID No. for use in countries other than Canada and USA and what is the cost?

Q5: How do I forward calls from my mobile phone to my PiFiDID number?
PiFiDID is a telephone number subscription service. The major advantage is that you can forward all of your incoming calls to your PiFiDID number by simply keying *21*[PiFiDID phone number]# so you won’t miss a call to your number while you’re away and you get the additional advantage of talking at local rates.
Key in #21# to stop forwarding calls when you’re back home again.

PiFiSIM cards are available in MicroSIM format and it is possible that we will supply you with a Nano SIM card if you send us an email support@pifizone.com
Q9: What APN settings do I use if I want to use PiFiSIM in other devices besides PiFi?
A9:
- PiFiSIM-R
APN: mobiledata
Username and password are not needed.
Use Prime profile in Italy and United Kingdom, and use Global profile in the rest of the world.

Q10: How can I get PiFiSIM-R to work in Italy and United Kingdom?
A10: Use Prime/Italy profile in Italy and United Kingdom, and use Global profile (default) in the rest of the world. Insert the SIM in a mobile phone and select your location or profile and then put the SIM back in the PiFi. If you are not prompted to select your location or profile, find "SIM Services", "SIM Menu", "SIM Profile", or "Profile" in the phone menu. Then select "Roaming Services" or "Select Location" and select the required profile and save it.
Q11: What should I do if the PiFiSIM does not connect to the network?
1. Check that the PiFiSIM service is available in your location.
2. Check that the correct profile is selected for the country where the PiFiSIM is being used.
3. Check that the mobile device supports the frequency band of the country where the PiFiSIM is being used.
4. Check that the mobile device is configured with the PiFiSIM's APN settings.
5. Check that the PiFiSIM has sufficient credit for 1 MB of data.
6. Try selecting another network manually. Note that different networks in a country may have different rates.
7. Try to force the mobile device send a new Location Update request to the network. Some methods are as follows: Turn the data service in the mobile device off, register on a network, and then enable the data service after the mobile device has successfully registered. Select another network manually (and change back to the original network if you need to use that particular network). Turn the data service in the mobile device off, wait one minute, and turn the data service back on. Turn the mobile device off, remove the battery, wait one minute, replace the battery, and turn the mobile device on.
Q12: There are many dialer applications available on the market. What makes PiFiDialer different and better from the others?
PiFiDialer uses a sophisticated 250kb/min or less audio transfer compression to reduce the amount of data used for calls. Other dialers use 1MB/min so connection can be dicey if you don’t have a strong signal and if you’re paying by the MB, you will end up with a nasty bill. PiFiDialer reduces those costs immediately by 75% and shows you exactly how much you’re paying per minute during the call.
Plus PiFiDialer uses an encryption technology that circumvents countries where services like Skype aren’t allowed to operate such as in China.
Q13: How can I save up to 90% on mobile roaming?
Bell* charges as low as $1/MB when the user pays $10 for a preferred rate and as high as $6/MB in the USA. Travelling to major destinations in the rest of the world can cost the user anywhere from $8/MB to $16/MB.
